Big loss for Hillary

Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 09:12:31 PM PDT

This should just about do it folks.  The S.S. Hillary just finished scraping the iceberg and now it's just a moment of denial before her passengers will look over the side and realize that the water is getting a lot closer to their feet.

How many delegates are available after PA?  This was it.  The last goalpost.

This 'win' tonight for her is just like the night after Wisconsin.  We've been doing that for a couple of months now.  The night of Wisconsin, she was way behind in delegates and had to point down the road at Texas and Ohio to rationalize continuing in the race.

She failed to catch up in TX and OH.  So, once everyone scraped the last of the confetti off their shoes, she was faced with once again pointing down the road to where she could catch up.  There sat Pennsylvania where she was totally dominant in the polls. So, that's why she had to stay in the race.  Everyone needs to keep doing this for six weeks.

And now we're choking on confetti again.  The NYTimes tells the world that this preserves Hillary's bid and who can argue with all that confetti?

But this is going to be a tough hangover at camp Hillary.

She's only going to pick up a small handful of delegates on Obama in PA.  He will likely remain around 160 pledged delegates ahead of her.  And in the coming days all the boneheads on the teevee box who are ignoring it now are going to have to do a bit of, uh, whaddyacallit?  Analysis.

Now, what does Hillary point to down the road?
